Dr. Winnick's interest lie mainly in the area of electrochemical engineering. Specifically, he conducts programs in fundamental fuel cell research and in the use of electrochemical cells to clean industrial gas streams economically; applications are currently in SO2 removal from stack gas and H2S removal from fuel gas.
Electrochemical cells are also used to separate and purify biochemicals from diluted solutions, such as reaction media and plant extract. Current focus is on alkaloid recovery. Other work include CO2 recovery and photoelectrochemical solar cells.
